What Happened During the Practice?

According to Windsor Superintendent Terrell Hill, Elijah-Jay Mariano Rivera was participating in a football practice on Tuesday afternoon, following a bye week for the team. He was not engaged in any drills or tackling at the time. He suddenly collapsed on the field and lost consciousness.

The coaching staff immediately called 911 and started performing CPR on him. The Windsor police officers and emergency medical technicians arrived shortly after and continued to administer CPR. They also used an automated external defibrillator (AED) to try to restart his heart.
