When Flat Earthers Spent $20,000 Trying To Prove Earth Is Flat And Accidentally Proved It’s Round

The scene is from the new Netflix documentary Behind the Curve. It follows a group of Flat Earthers who “firmly believe in a conspiracy to suppress the truth.”

The flat-earth and round-earth debate is a long-standing disagreement between those who believe the earth is flat and those who believe it is round. While scientific evidence overwhelmingly supports the idea that the Earth is round, a small group of people known as Flat Earthers believe that the planet is flat.

But now, in an interesting turn of events, the flat earthers spent lakhs of rupees to prove their point but hilariously ended up proving the opposite, the earth is infact round. Here’s what we know.

Flat Earthers Accidentally Prove The Earth Is Round

A group of conspiracy theorists has unintentionally spent thousands of dollars to prove that the earth is round, which may be among the most satisfying TV moments we’ve ever seen.

The scene is from the new Netflix documentary Behind the Curve, which follows a group of Flat Earthers who “firmly believe in a conspiracy to suppress the truth that the Earth is flat,” according to the documentary’s description.

Bob Knodel is one of those proponents of the flat-earth theory. He runs a YouTube channel solely devoted to the idea and is a member of the group using a $20,000 (or Rs 16 lakh) laser gyroscope to demonstrate the earth doesn’t rotate.

“What we found is, when we turned on that gyroscope, we found that we were picking up a drift,” says Knodel. A drift of 15 degrees per hour.

“Now, naturally, we were surprised by that and thought, ‘Wow, that’s kind of a problem.’ We started looking for simple ways to show that it was actually registering the motion of the Earth because we were obviously unwilling to accept that. You are aware of the adage, If your experiment disproves your hypothesis, ignore the findings.”

“We don’t want to mess this up, you understand? Then Knodel addresses a different Flat Earther. When you have $20,000 invested in this freaking gyro.”

“Would it be bad if we dumped what we found right now? It would not be good. What I just said to you was private,” he quipped.

If you want to watch this scene and a lot more, Behind the Curve is currently available on Netflix.

The Flat Earth Society is a group of people who believe that the Earth is flat rather than spherical or oblate as scientific evidence indicates. They argue that the evidence for a round Earth, such as photographs of the planet taken from space, is part of a conspiracy by governments and scientists to deceive the public.

The Flat Earth Society was founded in the 19th century and has had various incarnations over the years. While their beliefs are not supported by any scientific evidence, they continue to promote their views through online communities and social media.
