Kangana Ranaut shines as Thalaivii, wins Best Actress Award in Japan

Kangana Ranaut, one of the most versatile and talented actors in Bollywood, has added another feather to her cap by winning the Best Actress Award for her movie Thalaivii at the Osaka Tamil International Film Festival in Japan. Thalaivii is a biographical drama film based on the life of actor-turned-politician Jayalalithaa, who served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for six terms. Ranaut portrayed Jayalalithaa’s journey from a glamorous star to a powerful leader with remarkable finesse and authenticity.

A piece of her heart

Ranaut took to Instagram and expressed her gratitude for the recognition and honour given to her. She wrote in a social media post, “Thank you for this honour…Thalaivii is indeed a piece of my heart… many thanks for this acknowledgment.” She also shared a video clip of her acceptance speech, in which she thanked the director AL Vijay, the producer Vishnu Vardhan Induri, the writer KV Vijayendra Prasad, and the entire cast and crew of Thalaivii. She also dedicated the award to Jayalalithaa and said that she was inspired by her courage and resilience.

A challenging role

Ranaut gave her best for the film and put in a lot of effort to make the character look real. In fact, she gained 20 kilograms in just six months for her role. She also underwent extensive prosthetic sessions and learned Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian dance form. She faced many challenges during the making of the film, such as delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, controversies over the depiction of Jayalalithaa’s life, and limited theatrical release due to lockdown restrictions. Despite these hurdles, Ranaut delivered a stellar performance that was widely praised by critics and audiences alike.

A versatile actor

This is not the first time that Ranaut has won accolades for her acting skills. She has previously won four National Film Awards, three for Best Actress (for Fashion, Queen, and Manikarnika/Panga) and one for Best Supporting Actress (for Fashion). She has also won several other awards and nominations for her roles in films such as Tanu Weds Manu, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Gangster, Life in a… Metro, Krrish 3, Simran, Judgementall Hai Kya, and more. She is known for her unconventional choices and fearless attitude in portraying diverse and complex characters on screen.

A promising future

Ranaut has many exciting projects lined up for the future. She will next be seen as an Air Force pilot in Tejas and as former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi in her directorial project titled Emergency. She is also working on Dhaakad, an action thriller film in which she plays a spy. She is also set to star in Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda, a historical drama based on the life of Didda, a queen who ruled Kashmir in the 10th century. With such varied and challenging roles, Ranaut is surely one of the most sought-after and talented actors in Bollywood today.
