Well-Known Telugu Actor Costumes Krishna passes away at 79

Costumes Krishna, a well-known name in the Telugu film industry, passed away on the 2nd of April, 2023. He was 79 years old. Krishna, who was born on May 1, 1944, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, made his acting debut in 1991 with the film “Bharat Bandh”. He went on to act in more than 300 films in a career that spanned over five decades. He was popularly known as Costumes Krishna, owing to his expertise in designing costumes for films.
Krishna was known for his versatility and has acted in a variety of roles, including hero, villain, and character artist. He was known for his natural acting and impeccable dialogue delivery. Krishna was one of the few actors who could make an impact with his presence, irrespective of the screen time he was given.
Costumes Krishna Early Life and Career
He was born Madasu Krishna in a family of weavers. He was the second of three brothers. After completing his schooling in his hometown, he moved to Madras (now Chennai) to pursue his passion for acting. He joined the Government Film and Television Training Institute in Madras and completed a course in film direction.
After completing his course, Costumes Krishna worked as an assistant director for a few films before making his acting debut in 1964. He was introduced to the film industry by the legendary director K. Balachander. Krishna’s first film, “Navvithe Navaratnalu”, was a hit and established him as a promising actor.
Rise to Fame
Krishna’s breakthrough came after he started supplying costumes for various actors. He designed clothes for stars like Sr NTR, Chiranjeevi, Vanishree, Jayasudha, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Jayaprada, and Sridevi.

Costumes Krishna was also known for his skills in costume design. He designed costumes for several films, including “Mosagallaku Mosagadu”, “Tirugu Leni Manishi”, “Bhakta Kannappa”, and “Bobbili Raja”. He won the Nandi Award for Best Costume Designer for the film “Mangalya Balam”.
Krishna was known for his style and flamboyance, and his screen presence was unmatched. He was one of the few actors who could carry off both mass and class roles with equal ease. He was also a trendsetter when it came to fashion, and his costumes in films became quite popular.
Later Career
He continued to act in films in the 90s and 2000s, albeit in character roles. He played memorable roles in films like “Aapathbandhavudu”, “Suryavamsam”, and “Nuvvu Naaku Nachav”. Even in his later years, he continued to be active in the film industry and was involved in several social causes.
Costumes Krishna was also a member of the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce and served as its president in the 1990s. He was also the founder of the Costume Designers Association in the Telugu film industry.
