A Passionate Coach

After his playing days, David Fromm pursued his passion for coaching and teaching the game of hockey. He began his coaching career in 1996 as the head coach of Minneapolis South High School, where he led the Tigers to two conference titles and a section final appearance. He also served as the head coach of Team USA’s inline hockey team from 1997 to 1999, winning two gold medals at the world championships.

In 2000, Fromm moved to Colorado, where he became the head coach of the Colorado Thunderbirds AAA program. He spent almost ten years with the Thunderbirds, developing some of the best players in the state and helping them advance to junior and college hockey. He also worked as a western US scout and hockey consultant for the United States Hockey League (USHL), the top junior league in the country.

In July 2021, David Fromm returned to his home state of Minnesota to take over as the head coach of the Owatonna High School boys’ hockey team. He was excited to lead the Huskies and bring his experience and enthusiasm to the program. He had already made a positive impact on his players and staff in his short time with the team.

Fromm was not only a successful coach, but also a mentor, a friend, and a family man. He was known for his big heart, his passion for the game, his smile, and his willingness to battle for his players.
