The United Kingdom, November 28, 2022: A women’s rights activist and Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousufzai has called on Western leaders to support Afghan women.
Speaking at a protest march in London. She urged the UK to step forward and not ignore the plight of Afghan women. Malala was accompanied by others rallying opposite 10 Downing Street. They held placards and chanted slogans such as let Afghan girls learn and justice for Afghanistan.
She said
Global Leaders, you must not stand silent, you must do more. You must listen to the voices of Afghan girls and women and work along with them as you determine their country’s future in a way”
Taliban took over from a Western-backed government last year in August. They have been coming out with discriminatory and archaic laws for women and girls in accordance with their interpretation of Islamic law.
They have banned women from boxes and gyms and brought back demonic punishments, among other extreme steps have the story of Malala. But that is not a unique story. It is the story of millions of Afghan girls, and millions of girls in other corners of the world.
Every girl has the potential to be a leader to be a change-maker. They need the opportunities such as education to go forward in their life. But when they don’t get these opportunities, how can we expect them to have gender equality and the rest of their life?
So education is a basic human right that every girl must have. The activists were joined by a former Afghan child refugee and now activist Hamza.
Malala also added that she is where she is and what she is doing because of the opportunities that she was given by growing up in the West.
And that’s the only difference between her and her sisters back home. So this is what’s upsetting she is able to do these things and they’re not. Their crime is that they were born under the Taliban regime.
