As Cholera strikes Haiti, hospital scenes are harrowing

Haiti is battling a cholera outbreak. Thousands of people across the country are falling sick with the disease. The rapidly spreading outbreak is straining the resources of nonprofit organizations and local hospitals with hospitals filled up with medical workers forced to treat patients in makeshift tents.

Medical staff is struggling to provide care amid the ongoing economic and political crisis. Sure, water and other basic supplies are growing by the day. In addition, the lack of fuel has shut down public transport gas stations and other key businesses that come to factor to pass on the road. We have not been on it sick like assumed you can be home a load.

If you don’t know already then let me tell you that Cholera is a bacteria that make someone sick if that person swallows contaminated food or water. This disease causes severe vomiting and diarrhea.

In some cases leading to death. Haiti’s first major branch with cholera occurred more than a decade ago, nearly 10,000 people died and 1000s of others were sick and the cases eventually dwindled to the point where the World Health Organization was expected to declare Haiti color free this year.

But on October 2, Haitian officials announced that call cholera had returned at least 40 deaths and 1700 suspected cases have been reported so far, but officials believe the numbers are much higher.

Especially in crowded and unsanitary shanty towns and government shelters where 1000s of Haitians currently leave the local gangs and they are making the situation even worse, gangs are blocking access to a key fuel terminal to protest a government decision to cut fuel subsidies drying up gasoline and diesel supplies.

Patients also face a shortage of drinking water amid a deadly outbreak of cholera and a lack of food.
