India Re-elected To UNHRC for 2022-2024 Term, ‘Samman-Samvad-Sahyog’ To Be India’s Policy

Geneva – India was re-elected to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2022 to 2024 term on Thursday, with an overwhelming majority in the general assembly with New Delhi’s envoy here describing the election as a robust endorsement of the country’s strong roots in democracy, pluralism, and fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution.
There were 76 UN general assembly held elections on Thursday with 18 new members of the UN Human Rights Council, who will serve for a period of three years starting in January 2022. India got 184 votes in the 193 Member Assembly, while the required majority was 97.
India commands a great degree of influence in the United Nations. There is hardly an election that India has lost in the United Nation and that’s a testimony to India’s credentials as a major influence in international affairs.
And as a part of that, to get re-elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council is again a testimony to the democratic credentials of the United Nations, institutionally have remained with a setback even at difficult times since our independence. So that since the election to the UNHRC is testimony and as it is an endorsement to India’s democratic institution and India’s democratic credentials.
Okay, that’s an interesting thing. “Samman”, “Samvad”, and “Sahyog”, are very important terms, because these 3 words are the foundation on which our behavior in multilateral cooperation, the multilateral organization is based. Samvad is basically dialogue, that is mostly say that we need to talk to each other to be able to have the cooperate.
Samman means respect for each other unless he respects each other own system. Doesn’t matter, where we come from. but we have to have respect for our own sensitivity. And once we have that respect, then we begin to understand each other, which leads to the dialogue and cooperation that is Sahyog.
So, I would say respect, dialogue, and cooperation, these are the 3 very, very basic elements of multilateral cooperation. And these are the actual essence of our own behavior in multilateral organizations. India to be a very respectable member, a very important member, and a highly influential member of the international community.
