Jamea Jonae Harris (aged 23 years) was a passenger in the car, who was shot dead in the early morning of Sunday, January 15, 2023, near The Strip in Tuscaloosa. She was a family-oriented lady and mother of a five-year-old son named Kaine.
She hailed from Birmingham, England. This incident took place near the area of Grace Street and University Boulevard around 1:45 a.m. Well, she died on the spot but the vehicle’s driver was totally safe.

As per the driver’s statement, they were on their way near the university and the two men came and started arguing with Harris and then shot into his car, which brutally hit Jamea Jonae Harris and she was injured badly. He also said that in self-defense, he backfired and believed that he had hit a suspect.
Further, he said that he kept going along University Blvd. and was looking for help. Well, he spotted a University of Alabama police officer’s vehicle at the Walk of Champions at Bryant Denny Stadium. After that, Tuscaloosa police were called to the scene along with the VCU.
Details on the shooting
Reportedly, the shooting appeared to be the result of a minor argument between the victim and suspects, according to the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit. Further, it was determined to have occurred in the 400 block of Grace Street off University Boulevard.
Who killed James Jonae Harris?
After covering both scenes and talking to several witnesses, and viewing video surveillance, the investigators identified two suspects. Both were located and interviewed. Reportedly, as per police officer Kennedy, one suspect was found to have indeed been struck by gunfire and had a non-life-threatening wound.
As per the sources, the first suspect was Darius Hairston Miles, 21, of the Washington, D.C., area. He was a student and a member of the University of Alabama Basketball team.
Further, the second one is named Michael Lynn Davis, 20, of Charles County, Maryland. Although, after this, the sudden statement got issued and Davis is not affiliated with the University of Alabama. The two have been charged with capital murder.

The University of Alabama issued a statement on Sunday night that they are devastated by the incident that took place near the university. Further, they also conveyed extended deepest condolences to Jamea Jonae Harris’s family and friends.
Additionally, the authorities also talked about security and said the utmost priority is the safety and well-being of the campus community. They also talked about the incident and said-
“We are grateful for the quick and thorough response of law enforcement and emergency response teams, and we will continue to fully support the ongoing investigation. We were made aware of the recent charge against student-athlete Darius Miles; he has been removed from campus and is no longer a member of the Alabama men’s basketball team.
What did James Jonae Harris’ family members say?
As per the family, Jamea Jonae Harris was so calm and happy person. She was loved by everyone in the family. Her 5-year-old son was everything to her. She never had bad issues with anyone. Her mother DeCarla Cotton told the officials that she was just going to enjoy her weekend with her cousin that attends the University of Alabama and her boyfriend.
Further, her cousin Kennedi Henderson said that she is one of the best little cousins he can ever ask for. Jamea Jonae Harris used to push others for the best and often used to motivate others. Although, he said that it is a big loss for the family and we never thought something like this ever happens.
