A Landslide in Italy has Claimed the Lives of at least Seven People

Italy, November 29, 2022: Seven people including a newborn and two children have been killed in southern Italy’s deadly landslides. Five people are still missing.
Search and rescue operations continue on the holiday island of Ischia. Emergency teams continue to dig through mud and debris over the weekend and search for survivors.
While helicopters are being used to reach areas affected by the landslide. Sniffer dogs have also been brought in as rescuers searched through the wrecked homes.
Island authorities declared an emergency on Sunday while Prime Minister Joshua Maloney held a cabinet meeting and issued a decree aimed at providing swift help to people in need, following the disaster, including some 230 people who have evacuated the first tranche of $2 million of relief funds were also released after the Sunday meeting.
The head of the Roman Catholic Church or Francis said that he was praying for the victims. The landslide occurred in the early hours of Saturday after heavy rainfall the deluge sent a mass of mud and debris hurtling through the area collapsing buildings and sweeping vehicles were seen falling into the sea.
In recent years exceptionally heavy rainfall has become more common in parts of Italy due to climate change.
